Il Volo is a stunning example of raw and innate creativity. This video attests to their powerful  voice. Young and brilliant these three Italian singers met in a music contest . A savvy producer put them together as Il Volo ( literally, The Flight) Creativity at its proudest.

Creativity and the Quantum Dimension

My colleague and friend Imants Baruss teaches courses in consciousness at the University of Western Ontario. He has written and lectures on the nature of consciousness and its alterations.

He recently gave a lecture on Creativity and the quantum dimension. I am hoping to get his notes or an abstract of his talk at the Centre for Creativity at UWO.

Deep Ecology in Schools

The Center for Ecoliteracy [http://www.ecoliteracy.org/change] has identified a five-step process for schools becoming Smart by Nature, based on how living systems change. They write:

"Change is most likely to last if it involves whole schools. Children learn from everything the school does: school food, gardens, building design and maintenance, as well as curriculum in the classroom. We discuss several of the most important areas of school practice, and strategies for making changes in them."

Why not make schools places of learning about nature, about the practice of growing food and the benefits of healthy eating? Teaching children and young people about their connection to growing food, will draw in parents and the community.

We live such sterile lives with little access to the beauty and dynamic of nature, gardens, plant life. Having such programmes in schools--especially urban schools-- would go a long way to developing a deep ecological understanding of nature and how food grows.

My three hour workshop on the Council Of All Beings with my creativity class, helps students to develop a deep empathy with the parts of nature they represent in Council. As each part of nature chosen by the student speaks through the student, the human finds a connection through the heart and mind with the part of nature and begins to understand the deep relationship s/he has with nature.

The Council Of All Beings

is another powerful experience for students who are otherwise city minded and do not connect with nature. It was developed in the 70s as a one week or one day experience by John Seed, Joanna Macy and Arne Naess.

The experience of deep ecology can be cultivated in many forms. Gardening is one of them. Experiencing the Council of All beings is another.

MissRepresentation

MissRepresentation is a new documentary film made by women, who have something to say on behalf of humanity. Its thesis is that women, no matter how smart, powerful or current, are still being misrepresented by the hegemony called patriarchy. This mistreatment needs to be identified and stopped in its ugly tracks!

As we all know, ever since Mary Woolstonecraft wrote The Vindication of the Rights of Women that sent the men in her time (1760s) all atwitter (yes, before TWITTER!), women have been taking their place in the world run by "the old boys" as equal partners.

Riane Eisler's book, The Chalice and The Blade, outlines the emerging model of partnership between men and women which is the main characteristic of the new paradigm.

So why won't the majority of powerful men--especially those who run the media-- agree that women are equal and treat them with respect, dignity and fairness?

Why does the lowest common denominator in the old paradigm still try to run the show that portrays women as "the second sex" (Simone De Beauvoir, 1949)?

If imagery has the highest influence, then portraying women as sluts, stupid, incompetent, sex-objects and so on does nothing but keep half the population on this blessed planet in a position of chattel or slavery. This view simply replicates a morally bankrupt system that enslaves our brother's minds and closes their hearts to their sisters. It disempowers men. It is a viewpoint that handicaps them and blinds them to a vision of a future where we each take our place at the table and create a sane, sober society that values both males and females.

And yet, as this excellent, butt-kicking documentary shows,the MEDIA, the knighted handmaiden of the hegemons that run governments, think tanks and Hollywood image making factories refuse to own up to their MissRepresentation of women. These misguided and misanthropic people are the true viruses that keep humanity from progressing.

MissRepresenation asks: How do we want men to view women?


Get with the programme guys--women are your equals. And you dinosaurs who do not understand this fact are not equal to women or progressive males who do see.

Fascinating how the mainstream media has clearly ignored the important goals of this heterarchical movement. A heterarchy is like the talking circle practiced by many indigenous people. In a circle or pow-wow, the power goes to each member of the circle when s/he chooses to speak. The circle is the centre of power.

The media, for the past three weeks, has tried it best to ignore and undermine the power of this movement. They make no mention of this manifesto and continue to insist there is no movement because it is not hierarchical.

Good bye Mr. Lee

Mr. Lee, AKA John Harvey passed away on Monday August 1, 2011 in Guyana. Clarence Harvey, my colleague and friend and Mr. Lee's son, wrote to me about his passing. We dedicated our book, The Wheels of Soul in Education (Sense, 2010) to Mr. Lee who was an inspiring holistic educator before the term was known. Through his eyes, we came to see and understand the role of spirit and soul in education.

I met Mr. Lee, in person, at the First Soul in Education Conference in Findhorn Scotland in October 2000. I have not met anyone else quite like this personable, funny, mystical man who captured my imagination as he twirled his wooden baton and gave loud praise for the work of reality. His son, Clarence, whom I met at OISE in the early 90s inherited his spirit, vision and joy of praise.

Mr. Lee was an original. He is one of my Inspirational People. Like my grandfather whose first name was John and 3 other inspirational teachers, namely, John T. A. Shaeffer, John Weiser, John (Jack) Miller, he accompanied my journey into life, creativity, education and spirit.

In case you did not know, John is a derivation of the name for Jupiter or Zeus. It is a godly name and that is one reason we have so many people who carry this name in many forms.

Mr. Lee is his local name. His friends and family know him, lovingly,
by this name.

As soon as I feel the weight of his loss becoming less, I will write more about this inspirational human being and his unique work. I will look for my photos of Mr. Lee and post them.

May the spirit of love accompany you on this timeless journey, Mr. Lee now that you you have become our loving ancestor in the same way you were our loving human guide.

No degree of prosperity could justify the accumulation of large amounts of highly toxic substances which nobody knows how to make “safe” and which remain an incalculable danger to the whole creation for historical or even geological ages. To do such a thing is a transgression against life itself, a transgression infinitely more serious than any crime ever perpetrated by anyone. The ideas that a civilization could sustain itself on the basis of such a transgression is an ethical, spiritual and metaphysical monstrosity. It means conducting the economic affairs of man as if people really did not matter at all.
